We have to go through a fairytale expanse of magical Transcarpathia! We will touch the unspoiled nature of the Ukrainian Carpathians and be able to appreciate the charm of the rocky mountain waterfall Skakalo. We will have the opportunity to get acquainted with one of the most dramatic love stories in Europe, witnessed by the ancient fortress of St. Miklos. We also visited Beregwar Castle (Schoenborn Castle), whose towers and walls are supposedly borrowed from a knightly novel or a fairy tale about magicians and heroes. It is no wonder, then, that the USSR used to use the castle as scenery for filming. It was where the fairy tale “The Snow Queen” was created and the cult movie about the “Seventeen Moments of Spring” scouts.
A huge plus of this rich and interesting hike is its duration – just two hikes! Therefore, it will be perfect for a safe and fun weekend for even the busiest workaholics and student-students who do not like to miss couples!

Waterfall СКАКАЛО

The name of the waterfall was given by the fact that its stream seems to be jumping on a rock – jump. A marked path leads to the stream so that the dear guests of Transcarpathia do not get lost. But many tourists make the mistake of getting to the first cascade, they decide that this is the famous Skakalo Waterfall. Don’t stop! Take the path further – soon a magnificent and at the same time carefree sight of a mountain waterfall will open to your eyes.

Chinadiyev Castle “St. Miklos”: Fortress of Love

“Saint Miklos” can be translated as “Saint Nicholas” – the castle borrowed its name from the settlements, which turned into Chinadievo only in 1944, when the lands of Transcarpathia were under Soviet rule. The fortress is a relatively small structure, if you take the Mukachevo Castle “Palanok” as an example. It is a two-storey building with a wall thickness of two meters and two powerful towers. The fortress was built in the XIV century. at the behest of Baron Pereni. The strong fortifications at that time had an urgent need – the Russian Gate, which was often used to move troops, was located nearby.

Schonborn Earl’s Palace: mineral water neo-romance

The Beregvar Castle building has a unique twist: it is built on an astronomical principle. This means that each element of the structure not only performs its practical function, but also has a symbolic meaning. Yes, the number of windows is 365 – the number of days in a year. Another window is walled up for a leap year. The chimneys in the palace are 52, as many weeks in a year. The entrances are 12 – by the number of months, and the corners of the castle are decorated with 4 towers, corresponding to 4 seasons. On the spiers you will see weather vane and chimes, and on one of the towers there is a bell, which reflects every hour. The building is generously decorated with stained glass windows and bas-reliefs with the symbolism of Shenborn.
